Student Visa Application for Switzerland

If you’re looking to study in Switzerland as a foreigner, you might need to apply for a student visa. Below are the types of permits which you can apply for and what authorities request from you in order to obtain them.

Different Types of Student Visas

  • B permit (autorisation de séjour): This visa is for anyone who wishes to live and work in Switzerland. Be aware that the application process for this permit varies for European citizens (members of EFTA) and non-European citizens.

  • C Visa Application (Schengen Visa): This visa is for anyone looking to stay up to 90 days within a time period of 6 months in the Schengen area. It is mainly for any tourists (or other short-term visitors). Only nationals from certain countries are required to obtain a visa for such stays.

  • National D Visa: This visa is for anyone who wishes to stay more than 3 months, in which case you will be required to submit a completed form to your local Swiss Embassy.

Keep in mind that along with your visa application you will need to submit other supporting documents as well. The application procedure can take up to several months, so please submit your applications on time. The average cost of a visa is 60 euros, which may also be added to a processing fee.
